Loving Wool for Forty Years

Loving Wool for Forty Years

This September MiniJumbuk celebrated its fortieth birthday. Today we make the world's best woollen bedding products, but we didn't start making quilts at all.

Back in 1975 when MiniJumbuk first opened its doors in Naracoorte we were hand-crafting miniature merino souvenir sheep - hence our name 'MiniJumbuk' meaning 'mini-sheep'. The souvenir sheep were sold to tourists to celebrate the sheep industry and as an endearing holiday momento. The mini-sheep were incredibly popular and were sold in their thousands here at our factory outlet in Naracoorte and at airports across Australia.

In 1978 Don Wray a local sheep shearer joined forces with the original owner of MiniJumbuk, Isobel Miles. Don was passionate about wool and he began selecting and experimenting with the best wool clips from local farmers to create MiniJumbuk's first quilt. Wool is nature's miracle fibre, it is incredibly warm in winter, cooling in summer, lightweight yet durable and a completely renewable commodity perfectly suited to Australian conditions. Australia's wool is the best in the world due to the low population, low pollution and abundant open spaces to raise and nurture healthy sheep.

Since we made our first quilt in 1978 MiniJumbuk has gone from strength to strength and we have become a global leader in the design and manufacture of wool bedding products. Much of our success has been due to the fact that we maintain total control of the production of our bedding from start to finish. We source our wool from a wide selection of the best Australian breeding stock, process it on our premises and manufacture our products on site, right here in South Australia.

Proudly Australian made and owned and still based in Naracoorte with Don Wray at the helm as Chairman, MiniJumbuk continues to expand sales throughout Australia and around the world whilst retaining its country roots and supporting the local community and local farmers.

Love Wool - we do.
